Interview with Shout Out Colorado

We had the good fortune of connecting with Halee Everett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Halee, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have always been an adventurer, a daredevil and a risk-taker. I get bored easily and am constantly needing new challenges, which is why being a small business owner is the PERFECT job for me. Prior to Soulistic Root, I was managing a restaurant working 70 hour work weeks and on the verge of a major burn out. My happiness, health and overall well being were suffering. So I took the biggest risk and left my career of over ten years, in an attempt to start a business. That was the best decision I have ever made! I am almost glad that I didn’t know how much went into running a successful small business, because I probably wouldn’t have taken the risk. But let me tell you, the reward was so worth it. It’s taken a few years, but I have finally figured out how to maintain a good work life balance. I am able to see the world and to spend time with my loved ones. My time is so important to me and I truly value every moment! Throughout my life (both professionally and personally) I have taken many risks and I have never regretted a single one. Even if I didn’t get the desired outcome, I learned a valuable lesson. I think it’s important to go for what you want, even if it seems a little scary or unknown. Life is short and you either take the risk or you lose the chance!

What should our readers know about your business?
Soulistic Root is a brand of natural products created for a natural lifestyle. It is woman owned, and operated right here in the heart of Colorado. Our products are natural, non-toxic, cruelty free, and environmentally friendly. Everything is made with high quality ingredients and of course, a lot of love! All of our products contain pure, therapeutic grade essential oils so we promise that you will smell as great as you feel. Our mission at Soulistic Root is to make it easy and affordable for everyone to live a more toxic-free life! We are really excited about making the switch over to plastic-free shipping! We are always working towards a more sustainable business model and trying to be as eco-friendly as possible. Refillable/zero waste options will hopefully be available in the near future as well! My biggest piece of advice to anyone looking to start a business would be to find a community! I would not be here today with out the support of fellow small business owners I have met along the way. Some recommendations would be Podcasts, Facebook groups, other businesses on Instagram, vendors from local markets! There is SO much that goes into running a business and it is impossible to be the expert of everything, the more you network the more support you will have! I also cannot stress the importance of “working hours” enough. This might not be possible in the beginning or during some of the busier months but try and remember to maintain a good work life balance! Even though it isn’t always easy, I get a tremendous amount of joy knowing that I am helping others live a happier, healthier, and less toxic life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolute favorite place is, of course, Red Rocks! This would for sure be one of the first places I would take anyone visiting Colorado. I love all things outdoors so I would probably spend a few days visiting the hot springs and doing a lot of hiking! I also really enjoy the vapor caves in Glenwood Springs. I am not much of a beer lover, and would rather spend my day touring the vineyards in Palisade, however, I feel like you have to go to a brewery when you’re in Colorado! Avanti is one of my go to places when I have friends in town because it overlooks Denver and they have a ton of great food choices. Denver also has some awesome speakeasies, so we would for sure check them out! I LOVE camping so it would be fun to finish the trip with a day or two in the mountains, Nothing says Colorado like tubing the river, campfires, hammocks, cliff jumping, four wheeling, flannels and IPAs!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe so much of who I am to my aunt Becky! She was much more than just my aunt. She was my mentor, my inspiration, my life coach and my friend. Growing up she taught me all about herbs and essential oils, and how they could be used to cure dis-ease. I used this knowledge as well as my passion to create Soulistic Root. Becky also taught me a lot about life; she believed in the power of positivity and that “nature has no worries” and is the healer of all things. Becky was my biggest advocate and was always there to cheer me on in every aspect of my life!
